Regional KONI Requested Immediate Coordination Regarding PON Papua 2021

The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), led by Marciano Norman, conducted a video conference with KONI throughout Indonesia, Tuesday (12/5) afternoon. At the online meeting KONI Center coordinated with regard to the postponement of the implementation schedule for the Papua National Sports Week (PON) from 2020 to 2021.

In a meeting attended by 31 of 34 KONI throughout Indonesia, Marciano Norman expressed his hope that the regional KONI would immediately consolidate and coordinate with the local government and also the DPRD.

"We also ask KONI in the regions and the parent sports branch to organize and improve the overall program of activities in order to produce maximum performance on several agenda activities in 2021," Marciano Norman wrote in the meeting material.

Marciano also asked the regional KONI and the parent of the sports branch to adjust the activity program to the implementation of PON in 2021. So that it is hoped that athletes can achieve the best performance in Papua in the future.

KONI Banten, which at the meeting was chaired by General Chairperson Rumiah Kartoredjo and accompanied by Deputy Chairperson Engkos Kosasih and General Secretary Sutaryono agreed to the request of the Central KONI. Rumiah even stated that her party had continued to coordinate, both with the Banten Provincial Government and the Banten DPRD regarding the postponement of the XX PON implementation schedule.

"The expectations expressed by the Chairperson of the KONI Center have been carried out, at this time we have also tried to adjust the Pelatda PON program to fit the PON implementation target in 2021," said Rumiah.

While related to the ongoing stages of PON implementation, Sutaryono revealed, KONI Banten had fulfilled the stages set by KONI PUsat and PB PON. The KONI Banten General Secretary said that the athlete registration had begun and was just waiting for the improvement phase.

"Stage I Entry by Number consisting of participation in sports, number of matches and the number of athletes we have done according to schedule last April 19. We will submit another imperfection during the second phase, namely on August 19, "Sutaryono said.

"We are trying to fulfill the PON registration stage according to the existing schedule, we are still waiting for the shortcomings of the first stage registration," Sutaryono added.
