Chairman of the Tribal Customary Council in Papua: KPK's performance is still far from expectations

Even though the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named the Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe as a suspect, the institution led by Firli Bahuri is still far from expectations. The KPK was asked to be more courageous towards Lukas.

This was conveyed by the Chairman of the Tribal Customary Council (DAS) for the Tabi Region, Papua Province, Daniel Toto. He asked the KPK to immediately send a third summons to Papua's number one person. In addition, Lukas was asked to be disabled from all government activities.

"The KPK's performance is still far from expectations. Even though Lukas Enembe is already a suspect, the KPK has summoned Lukas twice. If it's the suspect, he (Lukas Enembe) must be deactivated from all government activities even though (the alleged corruption) has not settled yet," said Daniel, in his statement quoted on Monday, December 26, 2022.

According to him, the KPK should be able to issue a third summons for Lukas. He said letting a regional official who had become a suspect feel strange. Moreover, said Daniel, the status of the suspect is related to cases of abuse of authority and misuse of state finances.

Daniel, who is also a former member of the Jayapura DPR, highlighted Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian's statement about Lukas still being a suspect because the legal case has not yet concluded. He was surprised by Tito's statement.

"What's wrong with the Minister of Home Affairs again? Allowing people who have been deemed to have misused regional finances including the Special Autonomy Fund, but allowed it?” Daniel explained.
