Message from the Papua Regional Police Head to Exodus Papuan student representatives

Papua Regional Police Inspector General Paulus Waterpow reminded the exodus students from Papua Indonesia, to develop Papua a reliable and professional human resource was needed. So don't let the students drop out of their studies, because Papua needs you.

"Students who drop out of school cannot be expected, because to develop Papua, reliable human resources are needed. Don't be influenced by those who deliberately invite students to stay afloat," he said.

It is known that four student representatives expressed their wish to continue their studies in their respective cities. When meeting with the Papua Police Chief, the student representative complained about his condition.

Raymon Nerigi, one of the exodus Papuan students, said that the remaining 200 students from the previous 900 exodus students have remained in Timika since August 2019.

"Until today, the government does not see our existence, even though the government is a parent for us. We are confused about what to do," he explained, Thursday (20/2) in Timika.

Raymon admitted that exodus Papuan students had expressed their aspirations three times to the government, even in expressing their aspirations it was almost in conflict with the police.

"We want to hear for ourselves, what steps will the government take," he said.

Raymon said that some students who returned to their original city of study departed using private funds. Finally there were around 45 students who returned to their campus with the help of Yoris Raweyai, a member of the DPD RI representing Papua.

Not only that, many exodus students chose to settle in Papua and get married. Exodus students in Timika have split into two groups. Some returned to their campuses and there were exodus students who joined the sympathizers of an independent Papuan group. and they have different opinions.

The Papua Regional Police Chief hopes that with good communication, solutions will be found to repatriate exodus students to return to college.
In August 2019, more than 2,000 exodus students returned to Papua and left their study cities, due to racism in Surabaya.

After the exodus students returned to Papua Indonesia, riots occurred in a number of places, the Police suspect that the exodus students were the masterminds of the riots in Papua Indonesia affiliated with an independent Papuan group.
