Firmness of Corona Emergency Response Guard in Papua |
The police said the security forces would act decisively as long as Papua implemented an emergency response status related to the spread of the corona virus (Covid-19). The Provincial Government of Papua has established an emergency response from 9 April to 6 May 2020.
Papua Police Chief Inspector General Paulus Waterpauw explained that residents had been advised by various things since the status of the standby period, one of which was related to gathering outside the house. According to him the authorities will be more assertive during the emergency response status.
"We will act decisively by dispersing residents who gather outside the house," Waterpauw said in Jayapura, Thursday (9/4).
Waterpauw in his statement said. the authorities will not only disperse the stubborn crowd but will also act decisively according to applicable law.
The local government has restricted community activities, including learning and working at home, limiting entry and exit through flights and shipping, cutting market hours to 14.00, and closing all types of entertainment and tourist attractions.
The status of emergency response in Papua is applied because the current distribution is increasingly widespread. There are 45 positive Covid-19 people in Papua, five of whom have died.
While the overall number of positive cases in Indonesia has reached 3,292 people as of April 9. 280 people have died, and 252 have been recovered.
According to the government spokesman specifically handling Covid-19, Achmad Yurianto, Papua and Sorong, Fakfak, West Papua, Mimika, have submitted the application of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) to Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto.
