Jayapura City Police alerted 2,000 joint personnel to secure a demonstration from the Papuan People's Petition (PRP) against Special Autonomy (Otsus) and the New Autonomous Region (DOB), Friday (29/7/2022) tomorrow.

Although the police refused the permit submitted by the Papuan People's Petition (PRP), because they held a long march. However, the security forces, in this case the police, are still alerting security personnel so as not to be missed and at the same time anticipating the occurrence of something unwanted.

Therefore, the thousands of joint officers are alerted to anticipate things that are not desirable. "We will continue to take precautions if it causes a disturbance in public security and order, of course through humanistic preventive measures," said Jayapura City Police Chief, Kombes Victor D Mackbon, Wednesday (27/7/2022).

Previously, the Papuan People's Petition (PRP) had sent a letter requesting permission for the demonstration to the police. Unfortunately, the action will be carried out in a long march with the final goal of the office of the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) of Papua Province.

Therefore, the police have also promised to disperse the demonstration if it is carried out in a way that is not in accordance with the provisions of the law. "If we continue to do long marches, we urge you to follow the existing rules. We don't want to be missed for sure," said Kombes Victor D Mackbon.

The former Jayapura Police Chief admitted that he had offered the Papuan People's Petition (PRP) an option regarding the implementation of the demonstration. He wants this action to be carried out by referring to the regulations contained in Law Number 9 of 1998.

This is in accordance with the commitment of the Jayapura City Police to enforce Law Number 9 of 1998 concerning the expression of opinions in public. "We have never hindered the expression of opinions in public, because it is a personal or group right," he said.
