The government maps the potential for green investment in Papua

The government through the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment will map the potential for green investment in the regions of Papua and West Papua for environmental sustainability in the region.
.
The mapping of green investment was held at the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment in Jakarta on Monday, led by the Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and also attended by the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo, and the Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia.
.
"We made a mapping. There is carbon right there. Because in Papua it is a large area of large forests and the composition of the forest is still good. Then it has mangroves too. The coral is good. So we want the government to invest more in Papua in the future. on green investment, "said BKPM Head Bahlil Lahadalia after the coordination meeting.
.
Bahlil Lahadalia said there has not been a large potential value of green investment in Papua. Nevertheless, the easternmost region of Indonesia holds a lot of potential ranging from fisheries, natural resources such as nutmeg, cocoa, and coffee, to the micro, small and medium business sector.
.
He also admitted that the government had discussed concrete steps to realize green investment in Papua. "We have not decided yet on the value, but we are building a mapping, building an understanding between the central, provincial and district / city governments," said the former Hipmi Chairman.
.
Bahlil Lahadalia added that through the mapping, the government will be able to make rules regarding green investments that investors can enter. "What can be resolved domestically, we will resolve it domestically. But if the investment needs is large, if foreigners are interested, we will open it too," he said.
.
Bahlil Lahadalia also emphasized that there would be special incentives for green investment coming into Papua. These incentives can be in the form of tax breaks such as tax holidays or tax allowances even though the details have not been officially decided. "If 2020 is clear, we will start the road (investment)," he said.
.
Meanwhile, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Edhy Prabowo, said that green investment needs to be encouraged to optimize environmental sustainability while also encouraging economic growth.
.
"So the two of them can synergize. This is about blue carbon, so later everything will work, all will work well together, no one will complicate or obstruct each other," he said.
