The XX PON which will be held in Papua may be held without spectators. Previously, the implementation of PON in October last year was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and is scheduled to take place in October this year.
Although it might be held without spectators, the Chairman of DPD RI AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti still asked all athletes who will compete to ignite their fighting spirit.
During a working visit to West Papua-Papua, LaNyalla and his group of senators also visited the Lukas Enembe Stadium.
The stadium, previously known as Papua Bangkit, will be the main venue for the Papua National Sports Week (PON).
The chairman of the DPD RI along with a group of senators arrived at Sentani International Airport, Jayapura Regency, Papua from Sorong, West Papua, at around 13.55 WIT.
"I hope that all athletes who will compete in all sports, including the Papuan athletes who I met today, will continue to show their enthusiasm and achievements as high as possible," said the former head of the East Java Kadin.
Even so, the former Chairman of the PSSI considered it possible that later PON will be held with the audience as long as the Covid-19 pandemic is able to be overcome.
However, said LaNyalla, even if it had to be without an audience, the PON would be held live streaming.
"So stay enthusiastic and prepare a winning mentality," said the alumnus of Universitas Brawijaya Malang.
The Covid-19 pandemic affects various sectors of life, including sports. A number of match schedules had to be canceled or postponed to prevent transmission of the virus, which was first discovered in Wuhan, China.
One of them, the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) event, which was originally scheduled for October 20, 2020, was postponed to October 2021.
However, until the beginning of the year there was no sign that the Covid-19 pandemic would end.
