Positive Impact of Terrorist Labeling on KKB Papua

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md said, after the armed criminal group (KKB) in Papua was declared a terrorist, the authorities were quite successful in separating the group from civilians. The separation was carried out so that civilians were not used as shields.

"This way of separating means that terrorists do not turn the public or civilians into a shield, they often go into society and cause chaos, and then society becomes a shield," Mahfud said at a press conference on Wednesday (19/5/2021).

Mahfud said that currently several headquarters of the Papuan terrorist group had been identified. In this action, Mahfud emphasized that the security apparatus was very careful because there were still civilians at the headquarters.

"Now that it has been identified, there are places between 4 or 5 certain places, some of which have begun to be controlled, and that too is being carefully combed. Maybe there are civilians in that place too," he said.

Then the technical separation between Papuan terrorists and civilians, said Mahfud, had already been regulated by the relevant authorities. So there are no civilians who become victims.

"So we identified the person, we have discussed it with the session and deputy I. The technique of separating them has also been arranged, there is certainty of a certain percentage, shots are not targeted at other people, just carried out, like that so that no civilians will be hit," he said.

"So that is how we separate them, we identify the person, look at the location of the headquarters, we have already controlled two or three of them," he said.
