The Papuan Customary Council (DAP) for the Wondama region, West Papua supports the establishment of a new autonomous region (DOB) and the implementation of the Special Autonomy (Otsus) Volume II policy in the provinces of Papua and West Papua.
The chairman of the Wondama Regional DAP Adrian Worengga in Wondiboi, Tuesday, mentioned specifically the Wondama DAP support the formation of the Bomberay province candidates which include Wondama Bay, Bintuni Bay, Fakfak and Kaimana Regencies. He also hopes that in the future a candidate for the Kuri Wamesa district will be formed, which is a fraction of the Teluk Wondama Regency.
"The aim is to accelerate development in West Papua Province, especially the four regencies and includes the plan to form a candidate for the Kuri Wamesa district, the goal is to accelerate the welfare of indigenous Papuans (OAP)," said Worengga.
The proposal for the formation of a candidate for the Bomberay province was submitted by four regional heads including the Regent of Teluk Wondama Hendrik Mambor during the recent Work Meeting of Regents and Mayors of West Papua in Manokwari. According to Worengga, the formation of the Bomberay province had previously been voiced by traditional leaders from the four districts at the DAP II Conference in Kaimana in 2021.
One of the considerations is because of the similarity of the customary area, as well as the lineage factor.
“Based on history, the Wondama, Bintuni, Fakfak and Kaimana people are related from their ancestors. Also, judging from our culture and history, this is indeed a traditional area, namely Bomberay,” he explained.
As for the candidate for the Kuri Wamesa district, the Wondama DAP from the beginning has stated its support. The proposal for the formation of a candidate for the Kuri Wamesa district itself has been rolling for a long time since the leadership of the late Teluk Wondama regent Alberth H Torey.
Regardless of the pros and cons, DAP Wondama believes that the formation of new autonomous regions will shorten the range of government services so that in turn it will be able to encourage the improvement of the welfare of indigenous Papuans.
“So we from the adat council in principle support it. It's just a matter of government regulation, so that development really pays attention to human resource development," said Worengga.
According to him, the development of human resources should really be a priority concern by the regional government so that there is an increase in the welfare of indigenous Papuans as is the essence of the formation of new autonomous regions.
