Highest Papuan Population Growth in Indonesia |
Population Growth Rate (LPP) in Papua Province in the last ten years (2000-2010) averaged 5.55 percent per year or the highest number in Indonesia.
Papua Province Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Head Djarot Soetanto said in Jayapura on Wednesday that in the past ten years, Papua's LPP was indeed the highest in Indonesia and could even be said to be the highest in the world.
"Whereas LPP nationally only recorded 1.49 percent," Djarot Soetanto explained.
The exact cause of the sharp increase in Papua LPP cannot be clearly stated, because until now it was still doing calculations on the results of the 2010 Population Census (SP).
"But one of the indicators can be said is, more and more people outside Papua are coming to the Cenderawasih land," he said.
Djarot Soetanto added, the regency in Papua with the highest LPP was Deiyai regency with 18.91 percent, then Nduga regency (14.43 percent).
"While Mamberamo Raya Regency is the regency with the slowest LPP in Papua, which is 0.02 percent per year," explained Djarot Soetanto.
Touching on the temporary number of Papuan residents from the 2010 SP, Djarot Soetanto said, the results of the Temporary Counting were 2.8 million people, with a male population of 1.51 million and women 1.34 million.
He explained, Jayapura City was the most populous area of 278 inhabitants / km2, followed by Biak Regency (58 inhabitants / km2), and the most sparsely populated area was Mamberamo Raya Regency with a population density of 1 person / km2.
