There is no food stockpiling practice in Jayawijaya

Jayawijaya Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dominggus Rumaropen said, until now there has not been found the practice of hoarding nine staples (groceries) during the corona virus pandemic or COVID-19.

The police chief Dominggus Rumaropen via telephone on Wednesday said that the supervision and control of the nine-basic necessities carried out by members continued to run as usual.

He said the checks were carried out in grocery stores and food distributors in the Jayawijaya Regional Police jurisdiction. "Members check food and other things such as fuel oil (BBM), and everything is still stable," he said.

The Chief of Police said when checking, members reminded traders not to hoard commodities that the community needs.

"If anyone does a hoarding, they will face the law," he said.

Earlier, Head of Jayawijaya's Manpower, Industry and Trade Office Lukas Kossay said the availability of basic food in the area was safe for the next six months.

"Basic food stock is still in normal standard. For the next six months our stock is safe," he said.
