Dismantling the Luke Enembe Case, KPK Examines Projects in Papua

A team of investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has investigated various projects in Papua. This investigation is in the context of investigating the alleged bribery and gratification case that ensnared the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe.

Project work in Papua was traced through the examination of nine witnesses at the Mako Brimob of the Papua Police, Saturday (5/11/2022). During the examination of the Head of the ULP, Noldy Taroreh, the KPK investigated the implementation of a number of infrastructure projects in Papua.

The KPK also asked for statements from eight witnesses from the private sector, namely Rijatono Lakka; Bonny Pirono; Fredik Banne; Meike; Yani Ardiningrum; Irianti Yuspita; Razwel Patrick Williams Bonay; and Irma Imelda.

"The witnesses were present and their knowledge was studied, among others, related to the participation of several private companies in working on various projects in the Papua Provincial Government," said KPK News Section Head Ali Fikri in his statement, Monday (7/11/2022).

Ali explained, on the same day, his party examined the Papua Provincial Secretary, Ridwan Ruenterun as a witness. From Ridwan, the KPK studied the main tasks and functions (tupoksi) in the government in the Papua Provincial Government.

For information, KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri met Luke in Jayapura, Papua, Thursday (11/3/2022). The agenda for the meeting was to check on his health as well as to examine Lukas for the alleged bribery and gratuity case that ensnared him.

Regarding the meeting between Firli and Lukas, Ali Fikri emphasized that the agenda had gone through careful consideration. The KPK has held internal discussions before finally deciding to take this step.

Ali explained that Article 113 of the Criminal Procedure Code allows the meeting to be held. The article stipulates that suspects who cannot come to the examination agenda with proper and reasonable reasons, investigators can come to their homes.

Firli and Luke's meeting is also a form of the KPK's seriousness in resolving the case. For the sake of legal certainty, the KPK needs to ensure Luke's health condition. To that end, the KPK also invited a team of doctors from internal and the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI).

Previously, Firli emphasized that the arrival of the KPK team at Lukas Enembe's residence was solely for the sake of law enforcement. However, he said, the KPK in the process also considers the rights of the suspect.

He explained that the KPK team examined Luke Enembe for 1.5 hours, which was related to the case as well as his health condition. The examination was assisted by four doctors from Central IDI and regional IDI. At the end of the examination, the KPK and Lukas Enembe also signed the official report and other administrative documents.

"Regarding the investigator's questions, this is not about the number of questions, but how brother LE (Lukas Enembe) can cooperate in participating in the examination and providing his statement to us," said Firli.

The KPK has named Lukas Enembe as a suspect in the alleged bribery case related to work or projects sourced from the Papua Province APBD.
