Papua's Special Autonomy Continues

The government implements the Papua Special Autonomy (Otsus) policy as an effort to maintain peace and build the welfare of the people on Earth of Cenderawasih.

The Papua Special Autonomy Policy is under the auspices of Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua. The government guarantees that Otsus is not lost in Papua and West Papua. Only an evaluation of repairs is carried out, so that the people of Papua and West Papua will really feel it.

"Now it is being evaluated again, not ending, as long as the law is not repealed (or) canceled, it will continue," said John Wempi Wetipo, Deputy Minister of Public Works, in a discussion "How does Otsus Protect the Rights of Indigenous Papuans?" Tuesday, (15/9).

"Until today, there has been no real openness, either the provincial or district governments, regarding the implementation of both the policy on the absorption of funds and welfare," said Wempi.

The special autonomy provided by the government is likened to flowing water but not until it reaches the community. Is this really because there is a leak in the middle of the road, so it needs to be straightened out. Therefore, it is hoped that there will be no need for suspicion from the regions.

Wempi said, now is the right time to evaluate the implementation of Papua's special autonomy, so that it will be better in the future. Even if there is rejection, it is normal, because the implementation of Otsus still needs improvement.

Wempi hopes that there will be a comprehensive evaluation from the provincial government because the special autonomy policy funds are managed by the provincial government. From there it can be seen whether the special autonomy funds have been allocated with the right target.

"Do not let the egos appear of each other so that the communication between the district government and the provincial government does not go well, which ultimately hinders the implementation of Otsus. This needs to be fixed in the future," he said.

According to Wempi, if the implementation of Otsus still has obstacles, then don't the issues of expansion arise. Because, in fact, the most important thing right now is to build economic prosperity, infrastructure, humanize Papuans, so that they sit equally low and stand equally high.
