The Jayawijaya Regency Government helps maintain cultural heritage noken so that it doesn't become extinct

The government of Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Province, helps residents maintain the noken, which is a local and world cultural heritage, so that it does not become extinct due to modern times.

Assistant I to the Jayawijaya Regional Secretary, Living Wusono in Wamena, Tuesday, said the government's support was carried out through training for two days on September 27-28.

"Don't let the noken which is part of our ancestors' hereditary traditions, including the world heritage established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), will become extinct because we ourselves have not inherited how to do weaving, the forms of noken that used to be. be our part," he said in Wamena, Jayawijaya, Tuesday.

In this assistance, the government invites trainers to motivate the community to use an effective work system in producing noken.

It remains only to ensure that training is not only because the government provides tool support.

"With the machine (thread spinner) it is hoped that the quality level of the resulting woven will be better and participants will not be tired of using manual labor. So the effectiveness of the time that participants use is more adequate," he said.

He appealed to the noken knitting group to remain cohesive so that it is easy to monitor and receive government assistance.

"Hopefully later the results of the work can be included in district, provincial and national scale activities," he said.
