The Regent of Kaimana, West Papua, Freddy Thie, proposed to the Ministry of Transportation to open a new route for the Kaimana-Dobo-Timika River, Lake and Ferry Transport (ASDP) in order to facilitate access to transportation for residents in the three areas.
Contacted by ANTARA from Manokwari, Friday, Freddy said he put forward the proposal when he met a number of officials within the Ministry of Transportation in Jakarta on Tuesday (27/9), one of which was Head of Sub-Directorate for Land Transportation Infrastructure Benny Nurdin Yusuf.
"So far, the ASDP route in Kaimana has been operating. I propose that if it is possible to open a new route connecting Dobo-Kaimana and Timika, it will make it easier for people to travel to the three places," explained Freddy.
According to him, his visit to the Ministry of Transportation Office to meet a number of officials, including the Director General of Air Transportation, Head of Sub-Directorate of Land Transportation Infrastructure, Head of Sub-Directorate of Sea Transport Traffic, Head of Sub-Directorate of Land Transportation Facilities and Head of Sub-Directorate of Land Transportation Flows, was solely to request support from the Central Government for development progress in the Regency. Kaimana, which is still lagging far behind from other areas, especially outside Papua.

Freddy, who has a business background, said that there were several considerations in proposing the opening of a new ASDP ship route for the Dobo route (Aru Islands Regency, Maluku Province) - Kaimana - Timika (Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province) and vice versa.
"Especially in terms of geography and the economic cycle in our area. The new route that I propose is so that this can run and the community can get both social and economic impact," said Freddy, who is familiarly called Kaibus.
In terms of infrastructure, he said, Kaimana was ready with the ASDP route, just waiting for approval and assistance from the Ministry of Transportation.
Head of Sub-Directorate for Land Transportation Infrastructure, Benny Nurdin Yusuf, positively welcomed the Kaimana Regent's proposal.
Benny said his staff immediately coordinated with related parties and
Welcoming this, said that his party really appreciated the efforts made by the Kaimana Regent for his region.
