The Papua Communications and Information Office invites junior high school (SMP) students in Bumi Cenderawasih to be wise in using social media (social media) through digital literacy programs.
Head of the Papuan Information and Communications Agency (Diskominfo) Jeri Yudianto in Jayapura, Thursday, said his party was targeting students at SMP Negeri 1 Jayapura through digital literacy socialization activities.
"In using social media or cyberspace, these students have the potential to be exposed to fake news or hoaxes, provocative and the like, so it is necessary to disseminate digital literacy," he said.
Therefore, according to Jeri, junior high school students are very vulnerable so they need to be given understanding and understanding in order to be able to sort out the information consumed or transmitted through social media.
"On social media, not all information is useful, because there is also information that is false, provocative and so on," he said.
He said, in other digital literacy programs, his party not only targets students, but also parents and even teachers.
"The program is scheduled for next year, so that parents and teachers have the right technique in monitoring children who use various social media platforms," he said.
Principal of SMP N 1 Jayapura Purnama Sinaga said his party strongly supports the socialization of digital literacy so that the activity is expected to continue.
"This program is very good because it is in line with the literacy movement program in schools to develop reading and writing, science, and digital. But for digital it only focuses on utilizing learning features or platforms," he said.
Digital literacy at SMP Negeri 1 was attended by 100 representative students from each class and accompanied by teachers.
