Luke Enembe is not a big tribal chief in Papua

The chairman of the Jayapura Youth Movement, Jack Puraro, emphasized that Lukas Enembe was not the chief of a large tribe in Papua as a group of people claimed so far.

In a written statement in Jakarta, Friday (7/10), Jack stated that Papua does not only belong to one tribe, but to many tribes in Papua. In fact, each tribe has a traditional set of structures that are structured in a traditional leadership system.

"There is Ondofi, the chief of the tribe, the head of the kerep, to the messengers," he said.

He explained that the Customary Council in Tabi land, whose territory includes Jayapura Regency, Jayapura City, Keerom Regency, and Sarmi Regency, never gave legitimacy to Lukas Enembe as a tribal chief in Papua, or appointed Lukas Enembe as a tribal chief.

"If in the Lapago and Meepago regions appoint Lukas as tribal chief, that is the authority of the indigenous people there. However, if it is to oversee the entire land of Papua, the person who has given such a statement must immediately clarify," he asserted.

He asked all parties not to build or lead opinions that Papua has one big tribal chief like Lukas Enembe.

According to him, such an opinion was deliberately built to use the Papuan people as a shield to fortify Lukas Enembe who was suspected of disobeying the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) summons.

People who are still on guard at Luke Enembe's house, according to Jack, have an emotional connection with Luke Enembe.

However, Jack hopes that they will not hinder the KPK's task of investigating Lukas, and will not disturb the security and comfort of the people who inhabit Tabi's customary land.

"I know that Mr. Lukas' condition today is still sick so that the KPK cannot handle it. I pray that he can be healthy so that he can follow up on the KPK's call. We keep Papua safe as our common home, anyone can live in Papua," said Jack .

Jack hopes that Governor Lukas Enembe will be held accountable for all his actions so that the corruption case will be resolved soon and the public can rest easy.

"This is a legal process. The government of course already has data and evidence. Whoever we are, the people who live in the Republic of Indonesia, no one is above the law," said Jack.

He believes that Lukas Enembe is very ready to face the legal process. However, there may be input from the people around him, and even pressures that can hinder the legal process.

The chairman of the Jayapura Youth Movement asked the Papuan people to be wary of individuals who carried out provocation actions so that the atmosphere in the province was not conducive.

In particular, Jack appealed to Luke Enembe's attorney not to be too direct with statements that could escalate the situation.

He hopes that Lukas Enembe's attorney will focus more on preparing documents, data, and evidence, and continue to coordinate with the KPK so that the situation can subside.
