Concerned about Education in Papua, PTFI Builds a Science and Partnership Center Building in Uncen



As a form of commitment to support the development and quality of education in Papua, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) officially started the construction of the Science and Partnership Center Building at Cenderawasih University (Uncen) Jayapura, Thursday (6/10/2022).

PTFI General Superintendent General Construction & Special Project (GCSP), David Kaban said the construction of the PTFI-assisted Science and Partnership Center Building cost a total of Rp 45 billion and the construction is planned to take 12 months.

“The construction of this building will stand on 3 floors with a total building area of 2,765 m2, ground floor area of 630m2, 2nd floor area of 570m2, 3rd floor area of 870 m2, and auditorium area of 320 m2, and will realize a sustainable energy-saving program by using panels diesel for some of its electricity needs," he said.

The construction of the Science and Partnership Center Building at Uncen was marked by a groundbreaking procession by the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Freeport McMoRan, Richard C. Adkerson, together with the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). , Bahlil Lahadalia, President Director of PTFI, Tony Wenas, and Chancellor of Cenderawasih University Dr.Ir.Apolo Safanpo, ST., MT.

PTFI President Director Tony Wenas said that PTFI has been collaborating with Uncen through various programs.

"This time PTFI is providing support for the Construction of the Science and Partnership Center Building, aiming to support the improvement of the quality and development of education in Cenderawasih Earth," he said.

Meanwhile, the Chancellor of Cenderawasih University, Dr.Ir.Apolo Safanpo, ST., MT revealed that Freeport's assistance was a real contribution from a company that has been operating for more than 50 years in Papua, where Freeport's existence cannot be separated from Papua, and Freeport is committed to growth and development. develop with the Papuan people.

Apolo also expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Investment and PTFI who were present together to support the construction of the Science and Partnership Center Building.

"We are very grateful for the support of the Minister of Investment / BPKM together with PTFI, who have given full attention to improving the quality and development of education in Papua," he said.

He hopes that this building will provide benefits for the development of science and technology, and skills development for Uncen students and also the entire Papuan community.

Previously, PTFI and Uncen had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in April 2022 at the Rimba Papua Timika Hotel, regarding the commitment to support the construction of the Uncen Science and Partnership Center Building.

It is known that this collaboration is a continuation of the previous collaboration in the form of cooperation support for internship programs and various research by UNCEN which has been supported by PTFI.
