The Sorong Regency Government has prepared 500 hectares of land for the construction of an office complex for the Southwest Papua Province.
This was revealed by the Acting Governor of West Papua, Komjen Pol (Ret.) Drs. Paulus Waterpauw, M.Si told reporters at the West Papua Governor's Office Hall, Monday 10 October 2022.
The former Kabaintelkam Polri also revealed the result of the mutual agreement regarding Aimas, Sorong Regency as the capital of Southwest Papua Province.
"Previously, a meeting was held and resulted in an agreement with various considerations from all Sorong Raya Regents, including myself as the Acting Governor, West Papua DPR and MRP PB to agree that the capital city will be located in Sorong Regency, namely Aimas," explained Waterpauw.
Reasons why Sorong Regency deserves to be the provincial capital
Besides being the main city and having a strategic position or being in the middle, Aimas has closer access to Tambrauw Regency, Maybrat, Sorong City, and South Sorong Regency.
Another consideration, said the former Papuan Police Chief, is that Sorong Regency is the oldest city that gave birth to the Sorong Raya regencies, such as in Sorong Regency, which is still dominated by indigenous Papuans (OAP).
Waterpauw asked the entire community to go to the Central Government's decision regarding the Province of Southwest Papua. "We are waiting for the decision, we remain loyal to carry out our duties properly and responsibly," he said.
