Genyem Community Leader: Papua Needs Interim Governor

After Papua Governor Lukas Enembe was reported to be sick and still in the legal process, it turned out to have an impact on public services in the Papua province.

This has been complained by a number of parties in Papua. Responding to this condition, Genyem Community Leader Esau Tegai said that the Papua provincial government needed an interim governor to replace Lukas Enembe, who was currently sick.

On the other hand, the Papua Provincial Government also does not have a Deputy Governor who replaces the daily tasks of the Papua governor. This was conveyed by Esau Tegai at Sentani Jayapura, Sunday 23/10/2022.

Esau said that so that public services are not disrupted, there must be a temporary official so that the wheels of the government continue to run well without sacrificing the interests of the Papuan people.

Esau explained that the case that ensnared Lukas Enembe tends to be true because it appears that the PROSPEK (Village Development Strategic Program) budget has been misused which has caused the community to not feel the results of development.

"People suspect that this is true, so the KPK should have investigated it," said Esau.

Esau assessed that Lukas Enembe's mistake was related to the use of government funds, so the case does not fall within the realm of customary law and must follow government rules or state law.

Meanwhile, in relation to Lukas Enembe being confirmed as the Head of the Big Tribe in the Land of Papua, according to Esau, Lukas Enembe can't be the head of the Papuan tribe because there is no legitimacy.

The appointment of Lukas Enembe as the chief of a large Papuan tribe by Dominikus Sorabut was unilateral and there was no coordination with other tribal chiefs, therefore his party rejected it, concluded Esau.
