The Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) through the Human Resources Development Sector (BPSDM), in 2021, has allocated vocational scholarships for native Papuans (OAP) to study in Japan.
A total of 30 OAP students are ready to be flown to Fukuoka City, Japan to undergo education in the development of the agricultural industry.
This was conveyed by the Head of the Papua Province BPSDM, Aryoko AF Rumaropen, on the sidelines of the socialization of the Japanese Fukuoka vocational scholarship program in 2021, at the Horizon Hotel Kotaraja, Jayapura City, Monday (15/3/2021).
"The Papua Provincial Government has cooperated with Japan for a scholarship program. Giving affirmations for 30 OAP graduates of SMK / SMA in 2019, 2020, and prospective graduates in 2021, "said Aryoko Rumaropen, accompanied by the Head of Education Program Planning and Enhancement of BPSDM Papua's Affirmative Competitiveness, Elius Enembe.
Aryoko Rumaropen explained that Japan was chosen as a vocational study country for OAP students, because Fukuoka is one of the cities in Japan that is very advanced in the fields of agricultural cultivation development, agricultural mechanization, agricultural industry, and information technology for managing modern agricultural resources.
"We also have enormous natural wealth. To manage it requires human resources with this expertise. That's why we send students to study in Fukuoka, "he said.
In addition, said Rumaropen, universities in Fukuoka have successfully developed vocational education in the field of natural resource management in the agricultural sector.
Rumaropen said the provincial government welcomed various educational programs, especially vocational education programs to improve the capacity and quality of human resources in managing the huge natural resources of the Earth of Cenderawasih.
"For the management of natural resources with enormous potential, it cannot be managed in an ordinary way but must be managed in an extraordinary way through the development of science and technology," he said.
Rumaropen emphasized that in the future, the scholarship program is not only for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education programs but more prioritized for vocational programs for accredited specialists.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Cooperation Team for the Vocational Education Program of the Papua and Fukuoka Provincial Governments of Japan, Dr. Karsudi, SP, M.Si, said that the socialization of the Fukuoka Japan vocational scholarship aims to increase understanding for OAP students, so that they prepare themselves from an early age to join the program.
"The participants of the socialization came from the Papua Province Education, Libraries and Archives Office and the principals of SMA and SMK schools, with a total of 50 participants," he said.
"The method of socialization is done classically through face to face for participants who come from Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Keerom, and surrounding areas. For participants who come from areas outside Jayapura City and its surroundings, the socialization is carried out using a digital method through the Zoom meeting which is broadcast live through the BPSDM Papua Province YouTube channel media, "he said.
