The Asmat Regency Government (Pemkab) cooperates with Yogyakarta State University (UNY). Teachers, students and also the public can continue their education at UNY.
The steps taken by the Asmat Regency Government are aimed at helping accelerate so that Asmat Regency, Papua becomes a province that has achievements. The goal is none other than to build and improve the quality of human resources.
Quoted from the official website of UNY, the collaboration between UNY and the Asmat Regency Government is expected to improve the quality of human resources in various fields. This was expressed by Prof. Siswantoyo as Vice Chancellor for Planning and Cooperation of UNY.
"One of the most powerful strengths is to increase competence in the social, professional, pedagogic, and personality fields based on critical, creative, communicative and collaborative thinking skills as a 21st century education concept," said Siswantoyo.
Furthermore, Siswantoyo also said that the level of education is a picture of the quality of human resources. One of the efforts made is to collaborate.
"Therefore, we cooperate with Musamus University to develop human resources in Papua," he continued.
Improving the quality of teacher education in Papua
So far, teachers in Papua are constrained by the level of education in order to be promoted. So so far, the majority of teachers in Papua only have the rank of III/C.
In order to be promoted, this teacher must meet various requirements, one of which is the level of education. Siswantoyo explained, UNY has 78 journals that can support these requirements for both teachers who will continue their undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
By calculating the time for 2 years, teachers in Asmat Regency can earn a bachelor's degree through the Recognition of Past Learning (RPL) pathway. There are also other obstacles faced by these teachers, including the high cost and lack of response from partner agencies.
Therefore, UNY provides the right solution in terms of cost, quality, time with a sense of brotherhood and full responsibility. This opportunity is open to anyone, meaning not only for teachers but also for the community in Asmat Regency.
Papuan students can exchange student to UNY
Students who study at Musamus University have a great opportunity to do student exchange or student exchange programs at UNY. Later these students will get teaching facilities according to student exchange standards.
The lecturers from Musamus also had the opportunity to teach as guest lecturers at UNY. This program is expected to be a place to gain knowledge and experience.
Recognition of Past Learning (RPL) can be used as a program to accelerate the education of Papuan teachers studying at UNY. Siswantoyo explained how RPL's fast-moving work is based on performance indicators/achievements and risk-based work.
Siswantoyo gave an example, one of the things that students fear is writing a thesis. In fact, for the teachers in Asmat Regency, this is quite easy because the teachers just need to write according to the template what has been done at school. After being tested, this paper is valid as a thesis.
The collaboration between the Asmat Regency Government and UNY also received a positive response from the Rector of the Musamus University, Dr. Beatus Tambaip. He said that this collaboration with UNY is a very good opportunity for prospective students.
"This RPL policy is something new for us," said Beatus Tambaip.
The Chancellor of Musamus University advised teachers in Papua to continue to follow academic rules with Musamus University as a partner who knows the culture in the land of Cendrawasih. This RPL program is a priority for the Asmat Regent to improve human resources in Asmat Regency, and by cooperating with UNY.
Later the learning process will involve two universities. This program can be followed by PAUD, TK and SD teachers in Asmat District. These teachers can choose to continue their studies at the PGPAUD S1, PGSD S1 and S2 Education Management study programs.
