The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng (EO) as a suspect in the alleged corruption case in the procurement of goods and services in the form of the construction of the Kingmi Church at Mile 32, Mimika, Papua.
"For the purposes of the investigation, the investigative team detained the suspect EO for the first 20 days, starting from September 8, 2022 to September 27, 2022 at the KPK Detention Center at Pomdam Jaya Guntur," said KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri during a press conference at the KPK's Red and White Building, Jakarta, Thursday.
According to Firli, his party has conducted an investigation and found sufficient preliminary evidence so that the KPK has upgraded the status of this case to the investigation stage by announcing the suspect and detaining EO for further investigation.
In addition to Eltinus, the KPK has also named two other suspects, namely the Head of the People's Welfare Section (Kabag Kesra) at the Regional Secretariat (Setda) Mimika Marthen Sawy (MS) as the official commitment maker and Director of PT Waringin Megah Teguh Anggara.
It was also said by the Head of the KPK News Section, Ali Fikri, that the two suspects would soon be summoned by the KPK.
"We will immediately schedule the summons for the other suspects and we hope that the suspects will cooperate in responding to the summons of the KPK investigation team whose letters we will send soon," said Ali.
The suspects are suspected of violating Article 2 paragraph (1) or Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law no. 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code.
Previously, Eltinus arrived at the KPK's Red and White Building at 12:44 WIB and then underwent an examination. Eltinus was brought by a team of KPK investigators along with several members of the Papua Police Mobile Brigade from Jayapura, Papua, to Jakarta on Thursday morning.
On Wednesday (7/9), Eltinus was forcibly arrested by the KPK at a hotel, in the Jayapura shophouse area, then immediately taken to the Papua Police Mobile Brigade Headquarters in Kotaraja, Jayapura.
Ali Fikri said that the attempted forced arrest was because the KPK considered Eltinus to be uncooperative during the investigation of the case.
The KPK, said Ali, had sent summons to Eltinus on June 10 and 17, 2022. However, Eltinus did not appear.
