Railroad in West Papua Will Soon Be Realized |
A number of investors in Indonesia are reportedly interested in financing the construction of railroad projects in the area of West Papua Province, which is estimated to reach Rp. 38 trillion.
Business Development of PT Sari Nur Surya Utama Rio Chandranegara said that in this partnership investors are ready to finance the development without using government funds, both the state budget and regional budget.
Meanwhile, previously West Papua Governor Dominggus Mandacan, Head of West Papua Transportation Office, and several related coconut offices had held a meeting with one of the investors' representatives in Manokwari.
"Everything is funded by the private sector using the concept of a foundation and the funds are already in Indonesia. This development will be carried out with the concept of BOT [build, operate, transfer]. (6/20/2020).
He added that the investors involved in this financing all came from within the country. Development will involve state companies as well as local companies.
He explained that the railroad project in West Papua starts from Sorong City to Manokwari with a length of around 500 kilometers. The budget needed is around Rp38 trillion, including land acquisition and construction of the train station.
"What is not yet included in our idea of making TOD [transit oriented development], this project must have a direct impact on the community, namely a positive impact on the economy, such as the construction of economic centers at the stations being passed through," he said.
He hopes this cooperation can begin soon. At least in the next 2-3 weeks there has been a signing of the agreement or the formation of a consortium.
Meanwhile, Governor Dominggus stated on the same occasion that there were still a number of things that had to be resolved, among others related to the environmental impact analysis (Amdal) document and the recommendations of the regional heads.
