Mahfud MD Describes the Government's Efforts to Realize Peace in Papua



The Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menkopolhukam) Prof Mohammad Mahfud MD explained the government's various efforts in realizing a peaceful Papua. When appearing as the main speaker at a seminar held by Hasanuddin University in Makassar, Saturday, August 20, 2022.

Mahfud MD explained that the government is continuously trying its best to maintain peace in Papua. Various strategies for handling Papua continue to be carried out. One of them is through comprehensive welfare development.

Mahfud said the government was always making efforts to approach security without violence and without weapons.

For that Mahfud said to continue to increase the intensity of the dialogue. By involving all parties to find a common solution in the management of natural resources and human resources.
 
Mahfud on the occasion also gave some descriptions of the problems faced by Papua. He said firmly that Papua is a legitimate part of the Republic of Indonesia, there is no tolerance for separatism.

This is in accordance with the constitutional basis, Papera 1969, UN Resolution No. 2504. Therefore, the government is involved in maintaining and creating peace for the Papuan people.

Meanwhile, Unhas Chancellor Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa said as a university, Unhas continued to maximize its role in realizing Indonesian peace.
 
Unhas is actively collaborating with Papua, to strengthen affirmations.

"We hope that through a science and technology approach, the Papuan people can prosper. In general, Papuan human resources are the key to people's welfare," he said.
 
"Therefore, Unhas is heavily involved in improving knowledge. Through various collaborations and available curricula. Unhas continues to be committed to encouraging the strengthening of human resources and Papuan community institutions and being involved in peace missions," he said.

Head of the Center for Peace, Conflict and Democracy (CPCD) Unhas Prof. Aries Tina Pulubuhu, explained that CPCD is a research and development center that was only formed two years ago. In general, this Research and Development Center is present as a manifestation of Unhas' commitment to take an active role in carrying out the tridharma.

"Through this seminar, we hope to produce an idea that can become a recommendation for the government to maintain the peace and welfare of the Papuan people," he explained.
