West Papua Special Autonomy Bureau Encourages Syllabus Innovation for Education in Cassowary Earth

The Provincial Government of West Papua continues to strive so that the distribution of educational assistance sourced from the special autonomy funds (Otsus) is right on target.

The innovation that will be launched is the Special Assistance Service Information System (Sylabus).

The Head of the Special Autonomy Bureau for the West Papua Regional Secretariat, Abner Singgir, said that every proposal for higher education assistance would be verified using the Syllabus application.

The education categories that are prioritized are aviation, medicine and postgraduate (S2).

"If it's general, it's to the education office," Abner said when confirmed by the media crew in Manokwari, Monday (18/7/2022).

He explained that the provincial government had already conducted a selection of Syllabus operators.
However, its operation will start in 2023.

"There are already operators, they have participated in operational training," he explained.

He continued, the implementation of the electronic system to verify the verification of proposal submissions will be evaluated annually.

So, it can be seen how far the optimization of the distribution of the aid can be.

"It will continue to be monitored," said Abner.

For the time being, the application for affirmation program higher education assistance is carried out through the General Bureau to the Regional Secretary (Sekda).

After there is a disposition, then the educational assistance is processed.

"In 2023, the Special Autonomy Bureau will handle it," he said.

He said that the policy for distributing education funds was regulated through a draft special regional regulation (Raperdasus) concerning Private Universities.

The regulation has been discussed by the provincial government together with the Regional Regulation Formation Agency (Bapemperda) of the DPR West Papua.

"The regulation has been discussed," said Abner Singgir.

Separately, the Deputy Chairman of the Bapemperda DPR West Papua, Syamsudin Siknun explained, the proposal for the Raperdasus of private universities refers to the financial capabilities of the parents of native Papuan students.

"So far, we know that students who study at private universities have low-income parents," he explained.

He continued, the government should present an electronic system to make it easier for indigenous Papuan students to access financial assistance.

"This is something new. Praise God, Alhamdulillah, we will escort the Raperdasus to Jakarta," concluded Syamsudin Siknun.
