The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Papua has been designated a terrorist group since 2021. Since then, the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) has taken various steps to tackle terrorism in Papua.
The head of the BNPT National Agency, Komjen Pol Boy Rafli Amar, revealed this in an online FGD with the theme "Overcoming Terrorism in Papua: Whose Task?" with the Defense University academic community, Wednesday (20/7/2022). “The role of BNPT is to increase collaboration between government, religious leaders, traditional leaders, academics and other community leaders. We have formed a Terrorism Prevention Coordination Forum or FKPT in Papua and West Papua which cooperates with these elements to prevent acts of violence," said Boy Rafli
According to Boy Rafli, the problem of terrorism in Papua is not only the task of the government but all levels of society. "Terrorism is our common enemy because they spread fear massively," explained the Head of BNPT.
Involving all elements of both the government and the community in the Coordination Forum for the Prevention of Terrorism, said Boy, became a means of communication to tackle terrorism from upstream to downstream. "BNPT is also actively coordinating with ministries and institutions as well as with security forces," said Boy.
Communication with various groups is needed to determine the best operating strategy, both hard and soft approach. The goal is that the various policies adopted are more effective in reducing violence in the Land of Papua.
