The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) provides backup communication access so that connections in the Merauke-Timika area continue to run smoothly even though they have difficulty accessing due to the disconnection of the Marine Cable Communication System (SKKL).
Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate explained on Tuesday that to anticipate the problem, PT Telkom Indonesia has prepared three backup accesses.
"Telkom and the Ministry of Communications and Informatics have prepared alternative networks to be used during the repair process. Currently, the network used is from Backup Link of 3.25 GB, then 1.25 GB from Palapa Ring, and from satellite of 2GB. The network is available to serve needs telecommunications priority at this time," said Johnny G.Plate at the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Jakarta, Tuesday.
In terms of the internet, there may be priority adjustments, for example the use of Astinet or Internet services with the target market of Telkom's business as the flagship program of Telkom Indonesia because it has broad access to public facilities.
Meanwhile, for individual networks that are used by the community through IndiHome and Telkomsel, the right distribution is still prepared in order to meet the needs of the community in communicating.
In addition to providing internet access with priority distribution, the Ministry of Communications and Informatics ensures that telephone communication services or the "Voice" network can still be fully utilized by the people in Eastern Indonesia.
The availability of the telecommunications network via voice was also confirmed by PT Telkom Indonesia as the provider of Fiber Optic cable (FO) in the Merauke to Timika area.
"Since it was reported that there was a disturbance, we have continued to monitor and coordinate with related operators, in this case Telkom and Telkomsel. Regarding voice services, we prioritize that the services that have been prepared by Telkom can provide 100 percent 'voice'. In our Telecommunication Monitoring Center (PMT), we monitor so that communication from and to Papua can serve that," said Acting Director of PPI, Ministry of Communications and Informatics Ismail.
Meanwhile, during the repair of the Merauke - Timika SKKL, the community is expected to be able to take advantage of telecommunication services for connection needs that are included in the priority scale.
