The East Jakarta Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) held a mass blood donation to anticipate the shortage of blood stock in the area.
This was done because for more than two years during the Covid-19 pandemic, the blood stock at PMI's Blood Donor Unit (UDD) decreased drastically.
The reason is that blood donation activities which are usually held in a number of public places, offices, institutions, and agencies cannot be carried out, due to the lockdown policy which requires people to work from home to avoid the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
East Jakarta PMI Chairman HR Krisdianto said the East Jakarta PMI Blood Donor Unit during the pandemic experienced a blood stock crisis, while the need for blood requests from hospitals had to be met, because there were indeed many patients who routinely needed blood transfusions.
For this reason, Krisdianto appreciated the West Papua Student Association (Himapabar) which held a blood donation activity at the PMI Headquarters Hall in East Jakarta, Jalan I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Klender, East Jakarta, Tuesday (22/3/2022).

There were 58 students from various regions in Papua who took part in the humanitarian action.
Before donating blood, prospective donors must first fill out a registration form and then conduct screening or health checks to find out whether the prospective donor has met the requirements or not.
Screening includes checking weight, hemoglobin, blood type, blood pressure, and others.
"I hope this is not the first time, doing activities like this regularly to help people who really need blood," said Krisdianto.
Himapabar Management Malkin Kosepa appreciates PMI East Jakarta for accepting Papuan students who will donate blood.
Malkin said that apart from living in Jabodetabek-Banten, the students who attended also came from Bandung, West Java.
"Himapabar will continue to carry out social activities that are beneficial for the environment and humans," said the Polimedia student from Bintuni Bay.
Previously Himapabar had carried out environmental conservation activities in the Ciliwung watershed, including planting trees and sowing fish seeds.
The Head of Partnership and Communication for PMI East Jakarta, Rasminto, said he was grateful that the implementation of the Himapabar Caring Blood donation went smoothly.
"Hopefully this activity can be continued with other collaborative social activities in helping the community's difficulties, especially in humanitarian activities," said Rasminto.
Meanwhile, UDD PMI DKI Jakarta Dr. Endang Pratiwi emphasized that the implementation of blood donation is not intended for those who have HIV/AIDS, have a history of Hepatitis B, are pregnant, breastfeeding and others as stated in the donor questionnaire form.
Previously, Marauke DPRD member Dominikus Ulukyanan and his team had already visited PMI East Jakarta. In addition to being a member of the DPRD, Dominikus is also the Chairman of PMI Marauke.
