Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, said Law No. 2/2021 on the Second Amendment to Law No. 21/2001 on Special Autonomy for Papua Province gave new hope for the development of the Cenderawasih Earth.
In Law No. 2/2021, members of the district and city-level DPRDs now come into effect with the appointment method, the same as members of the provincial-level DPRD.
Muhaimin said the policy was the best and compromise solution by eliminating local political parties.
"With this policy, it is hoped that the best Papuan sons and daughters can make the best contribution to the development of Papua, as well as to our beloved Indonesia," said Muhaimin, in a statement received on Tuesday.
In addition, continued Muhaimin, an extraordinary achievement from the struggle for the new Special Autonomy Law was the increase in the National General Allocation Fund for Papua to 2.25 percent from the previous 2 percent.
Furthermore, the new Special Autonomy Law will contain seven government regulations as legal products derived from the law, he said. The previous Special Autonomy Law contained only one PP related to the Papuan indigenous cultural institution, the Papuan People's Assembly.
Regarding the formation of a PP as a derivative of Law Number 2/2021, previously the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, reported to the Vice President, Ma'ruf Amin, that there would be at least two PPs.
Spokesperson for the Vice President, Masduki Baidlowi, said Karnavian told Ma'ruf that the two PPs were related to Papuan indigenous institutions and financial management.
"The Minister of Home Affairs said that from the new Special Autonomy Law, there must be at least two PPs, one concerning institutions and authorities, while there is also a PP regarding financial governance," said Baidlowi, in his statement in Jakarta, Monday (30/8/2021).
