The government will budget funds for special autonomy (otsus) for Papua and West Papua of Rp. 8.5 trillion in the 2022 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget Draft (RAPBN).

The allocation of special autonomy funds for Papua and West Papua, which is budgeted in 2022, is 12.6% higher than in the outlook for the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) in 2021, which is Rp. 7.6 trillion.

The Director General (Dirjen) of Fiscal Balance at the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) Astera Primanto Bhakti said, in accordance with the mandate of Law number 2 of 2021, the use of the 2022 Special Autonomy Fund was divided into two parts, namely the Special Autonomy Grant and the Special Autonomy Block Grant.

“For the Special Autonomy Grant Fund, Rp 4.72 trillion will be budgeted. Later, the funds will be used to finance education, health, and community economic empowerment," said Astera Primanto Bhakti, Sunday (22/8).

Meanwhile, the Special Autonomy Block Grant Fund will be budgeted at Rp 3.78 trillion. The funds, said Prima, will be used for the development, maintenance and implementation of public services, improving the welfare of Papuan Indigenous People (OAP), strengthening traditional institutions, and other matters based on regional needs and priorities.
