188 E-Sports Athletes Ready to Compete in PON Papua

A total of 188 e-sport athletes from various provinces in the country have arrived in Jayapura. They are ready to compete in the main round of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) exhibition starting Wednesday (22/9).

"The number of participants who registered was 200 thousand, but there were approximately 50 thousand who had gathered to compete, and those who were already present in Papua itself were a total of 188 athletes," said Head of Public Relations and Communications of the Indonesian Esports Executive Board (PB ESI) Ashadi when met at the Doyo Baru indoor hockey field, Jayapura, Sunday (19/9).

Athletes are placed in Wisma Atlet which is located in a complex with Hockey and Cricket fields. Ashadi explained that the organizing committee also implemented a bubble system for the athletes, in order to limit their movement in order to maintain health and safety.

"Only in this area athletes can wage guerrilla warfare, so they can't go anywhere, this is from our side of the health program. Second, it's from the security side as well," Ashadi continued.

To enforce health protocols, a number of points on the way to the match arena are also attached with pictures to remind those who enter the area to wear masks. Not only that, according to Ashadi, athletes who advance to the main round to compete offline in Papua are also required to vaccinate.

"All participants present here must have been vaccinated," said Ashadi.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Esports Contingent, Michael Eprafas, said that this requirement was an important note for ESI DKI. He said several athletes who went to Papua had been vaccinated.

"However, there are also some who have not, so we immediately help to vaccinate," said Michael.

Meanwhile, from the athlete side, Ahmad Egy Fauzan, a Free Fire player who represents the province of Bangka Belitung is preparing to compete. 11," said the 17-year-old e-sports athlete.

The entry of e-sports to be competed in the multi-event event, according to Ahmad, can be a place for e-sports players to show off their potential from areas where their potential is not visible. The e-sport exhibition at PON Papua, continued Ahmad, could also be a talent search venue for e-sport clubs to target potential players.

Talking about the strongest opponent, Ahmad said, all who have entered here are equal in strength. He also hopes to make it into the top three. "Just showing the best that Bangka Belitung can too," said Ahmad added.
