Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to visit Papua on August 26-28 2021 to check the readiness for the XX National Sports Week (PON) to be held next October.
The Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Pol. Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said that his party had held a coordination meeting with the Forkompinda ranks in Papua Province to prepare for the president's working visit.
"In order to check the readiness of the venue for PON XX Papua in 2021 as well as check vaccination activities in Papua Province," Kamal told reporters, Wednesday (25/8).
The coordination carried out on Tuesday (24/8) was attended by the Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe, Irdan XVII/Cenderawasih Brigadier General Wachid Aprilyanto, to the Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Pol Mathius D Fakhiri.
The Kapolda, he said, asked his staff to prepare a security plan to guard the arrival of the president to Cenderawasih earth. According to him, all problems related to the location of the XX PON event must be resolved before Jokowi's arrival.
"So the problem, the problem at the venue, we must be able to solve it," he explained.
He explained that the Head of the Presidential Secretariat had conveyed that the route for checking the XX PON arena by the president was carried out through one route to Sentani Airport. In this case, the locations to be visited are the Doyo Cricket Venue and the Lukas Enembe Main Stadium Area which are located in Harapan Village, East Sentani District, Jayapura.
Then, later, Jokowi will review the vaccination activities in the yard of the Papua Governor's Office so that it can be continued directly with the Forkopimda meeting in the Sasana Krida Hall, Papua Province.
Last July, Jokowi ensured that the 2020 Papua PON would be held as planned on 2-15 October.
Menpora Zainudin Amali said that the event had been carried out based on mature and objective calculations in the midst of the current Covid-19 pandemic situation.
"The president asked the PON to continue, because of reports from the Minister, Governor and Chairman of KONI, we can still run unless one day there will be a situation that is more than we previously anticipated," said Zainudin after a limited meeting (Ratas) on Tuesday (13/7) ).
However, the construction of arenas in a number of places is still problematic. The police noted that there are four locations that are still under 50 percent processing ahead of the Papua PON in October.
It was stated that the problem was related to the payment of ulayat rights and the problem of constructing alternative roads which then made the local community to do pemalangan.
"Currently the Papuan Police have formed a law enforcement team to resolve unresolved problems at the venue and provide assistance to the demands of the community," said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, on August 16.
For information, the last time Jokowi visited Papua was in 2019. At that time, Jokowi, who had just entered his second term of presidency, visited Papua and West Papua. In the first period of his presidency, 2014-2019, Jokowi was recorded to have visited Papua 12 times.
