The vaccination program for East Java (Jatim) athletes, the projection for the XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua, will begin on Monday (8/3).
Vaccinations were given to 1,300 people. Consists of athletes, coaches, staff and other support teams.
However, due to limited vaccine doses, this vaccination is carried out in several periods. The first wave, consisting of 700 athletes, was vaccinated at the East Java Governor's Office for two days, March 8-9, 2021. Meanwhile, the second batch is expected to be carried out no later than April or May.
In this first wave, there were 360 athletes from 30 sports who were vaccinated. Meanwhile, on Tuesday (9/3), 340 athletes will undergo vaccinations.
"Through this vaccination, we hope that the safety and comfort of athletes will be guaranteed. So they can practice calmly. The family waiting at home was calm. He said that even though he had received the vaccine, it did not mean that athletes could be negligent and negligent. Because the Covid-19 pandemic is not yet over.
"In accordance with the government's recommendation, after being vaccinated, it is also obligatory to apply health protocols," added the man who is also the Deputy Secretary of the East Java KONI.
Meanwhile, Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi, one of the athletes who was vaccinated in the first period, said the vaccine would make her more protected and reduce anxiety when she was about to compete. However, the volleyball player for the Bank Jatim women's team urged colleagues to adhere to health protocols.
"After this vaccination, we hope to do a try out or a match test. PON Papua is getting closer. So far, we only train with our own colleagues. We hope to play against outside teams to measure the results of our training so far. Because with a match it will make us more compact and solid, ”explained Mega, his greeting.
After all of them are vaccinated, KONI Jatim hopes to send athletes who live in the Regional Training Center (Puslatda) to various regions or abroad to undergo try outs or trials.
According to dr. Wardi, this vaccination opens opportunities for the East Java contingent to have trials with teams or outside athletes. He realized that sparring is very important for athletes and teams. Especially for those who come from game sports. The absence of a match test actually makes them less developed.
"We also hope to try out overseas. We will evaluate during this month. Also monitors international conditions. All return to global pandemic conditions and the policies of the target countries. If they receive a visit from us, we will definitely go, "said dr. Wardi.
He revealed that the East Java dive team had submitted a try out program to Russia. Other sports also began to communicate with the countries they wanted to go to. If global conditions become more stable, the hopes of East Java Puslatda athletes to try out abroad can be realized.
