Corona Virus: Papua Red Fruit Can Increase Immunity |
Red fruit or Pandanaceae conoideus can be used to boost immunity to fight pathogenic infections, including the new corona virus, COVID-19. This endemic fruit of Papua contains antioxidants, beta carotene, omega 3 and 9, as well as many other substances that increase endurance.
Researchers from the Papua Archaeological Center Hari Suroto who reminded the efficacy of red fruit amid global anxiety about the corona virus COVID-19. He mentioned the fruit has long been consumed by the Dani people in the Baliem Valley, Jayawijaya Regency, and is considered proven to free them from various diseases.
"Red fruit contains high natural antioxidants, and various vitamins and substances such as 12,000 ppm carotene, 700 ppm beta carotene, 11,000 ppm tocopherol which play an active role in increasing stamina and the immune system," Hari told Tempo, Friday, March 6, 2020 .
In addition there are several other substances in red fruit that increase endurance, namely oleic acid, linoleic acid, decanoic, omega 3 and omega 9. "All of them are called active compounds to prevent the formation of free radicals in the body," said archaeologist graduated from Udayana University, Bali that, add.
Red Fruit including the Pandanaceae family can be found from the lowlands to high in Papua which is spread to Papua New Guinea. It is estimated that more than 30 varieties of this fruit can be found in Papua, each with a different name for each fruit character and each region.
For example, red fruits from the Kelila District, the West Baliem Valley, have different local names referring to the size, color of the fruit, leaf color, and taste. However, in general only four varieties have been developed because they have economic value, namely long red, short red, brown and yellow cultivars.
