Laying of the First Stone for the Construction of 2,000 Houses of Sentani Flood Victims

Jayapura Regency Government is building as many as 2,000 livable houses as new settlements for residents of the Sentani flash floods in 2019. The laying of the first stone as a sign of the start of housing construction was centered in Yakonde Village, Waibu District.
.
"It's rather hard for people who have lived on the lake for years, then have to move to the mainland. But, slowly there must be an adjustment (adaptation), "said Regent Mathius Awoitauw, when laying the first stone, Thursday (02/27/2020).
.
The relocation or resettlement of the victims of the Sentani flash flood was funded by the government and a number of social institutions. A similar program was previously carried out in Kampung Kemiri, Sentani District.
.
Regent Awoitauw said the location of community land in Jayapura Regency was not only on the shores of Lake Sentani, but also on the mainland. Therefore, it should be noted together about the management of its development.
.
The resettlement of flood victims is a joint movement, starting from Kampung Yakonde to the entire coast of Lake Sentani. "The construction of houses from Yakonde to Yongsu Desoyo Village in Ravenirara District is the third segment. As for the second segment, construction has already begun in Kemiri. "
.
Awoitauw hopes that the relocation program will be supported and involve the local community. "Not all of the locations for the plan to construct habitable houses in several villages are designated as relocation areas."
.
Yakonde Village Head Yakob Daimoi ensures that the relocation land in their area is free from legal issues. Every land occupied has a certificate of ownership in the name of the head of each family. There are 12 houses built in the first phase. In the next stage, the number of houses built is determined by the local government.
