Traditional Leaders Say Papuan People Support KPK in the Case of Luke Enembe

Indigenous leader (Ondoafi) from Tanah Tabi in Papua Yanto Eluay emphasized that indigenous Papuans support the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in investigating the alleged corruption case of Governor Lukas Enembe.

"For now, I can say that all indigenous Papuan communities support law enforcement against Papuan children, whoever they are, who are indicated to have misappropriated state finances," said Yanto Eluay in a written statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (18/10/2022).

According to him, the support is to reveal the misuse of Papuan Special Autonomy funds by Papuan officials. In addition to support for the KPK, Yanto also hopes that the central government will pay attention to community services, which are currently hampered by the illness of Governor Lukas Enembe.

"The people of Papua really need government services," he said.

He hopes that the central government can appoint an official to carry out public service tasks. So that Lukas Enembe can focus on restoring his health to face the KPK examination.

"Currently, Lukas Enembe has become a suspect, he is currently ill for a long time, I think the central government can take steps to serve the public," he said.

Yanto also commented on the inauguration of Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe as Head of the Papuan Tribe by the Papuan Customary Council (DAP). He considered that DAP's actions had damaged the traditional order. Yanto said the inauguration or appointment had tarnished the prestige of the Papuan people.

"I myself also as a traditional leader in Papua would like to convey that what the Papuan Customary Council has done regarding the inauguration of Lukas Enembe as the Head of the Big Tribe for the seven traditional territories in Papua is an act that harasses and destroys the Papuan traditional order," he asserted.

Yanto explained that the appointment of a person to be the head of the Papuan Tribe must have certain criteria, such as having a pedigree or lineage of a tribal chief, not just confirming someone as the head of the Big Tribe because of a particular interest.

"A leader must be a role model. All of his behavior is an example. If his morality, his behavior is not good, how can he become a traditional leader and become a role model for the indigenous people he leads," said Yanto.
