The Sorong Regency Government holds an MSME exhibition to help economic recovery efforts

The Sorong Regency Government, West Papua Province, held an MSME exhibition as an effort to help economic recovery due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as a form of inflation control.

The Head of the Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises of Sorong Regency, Marthen Pajala in Sorong, Tuesday, said that in two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the performance of MSMEs in Sorong Regency was not going well and some were even closed.

He said that as an effort to recover the economy and revive the spirit of local MSME players, the local government held an exhibition of MSME products.

He explained that the local government provided a showroom (showroom) for SMEs or a place on the side of the road to accommodate all local community products to be exhibited and sold.

The exhibition activity, he continued, was carried out for the next month with the main aim of reviving the enthusiasm of MSME actors to return to active production.

It is said that the obstacle for SMEs is marketing. Therefore, this activity is to help MSMEs in Sorong district promote and sell their products more widely.

SMEs are very enthusiastic about this activity. There were 100 MSME actors involved in the exhibition by selling processed dry food products in the showroom such as chips and other dry foods with local food ingredients.

"Meanwhile outside the showroom with tents, there are also MSME players who sell wet food products such as cassava, corn, taro, petatas, vegetables and fruits," said Marthen Pajala.

He added that there were 5,875 MSME actors in Sorong district who were continuously encouraged by the local government to develop forward and create new jobs.
