The Jayapura City Government is committed to the level of human resources for indigenous Papuan children

The Jayapura City Government is committed to continuing to improve the human resources of indigenous Papuan children in the field of education, especially for the indigenous people of Port Numbay so that they are more qualified and competent.

“Empowered with Otsus [special autonomy] funds from early childhood education [school] units to tertiary institutions. The budget is already there," said the Acting Mayor of Jayapura, Frans Pekey, at the Jayapura Mayor's Office, Tuesday (4/10/2022).

He said this was a form of attention and service from the local government in the field of education, so that all children from Port Numbay had competitiveness in the field of education.

“Currently, Jayapura City is no longer pursuing [as a] barometer, because it has become a barometer of education in Papua. But what is needed now is competitive and competent human resources,” he said.

For that, he said, the Jayapura City Government allocated 30 percent of the budget from the Special Autonomy fund for the education sector (including school operational funds and empowering educators).

"We are preparing according to work needs so that children in Jayapura City become masters in their own country, both in the education, health and economic welfare sectors," he said.

Pekey explained that human resources are in the field of education such as general education, vocational education, academic education, professional education, vocational education, religion, and special education.

"The results of graduation are very important so that students are able to be competitive, create jobs, and become reliable workers in their respective fields," he explained.
