The Manokwari Regency Government hopes that the construction of livable houses in Manokwari Regency, West Papua Province, can prevent stunting and maternal mortality cases and reduce poverty.
The regent of Manokwari, Hermus Indou, in Manokwari, Monday, said that to prevent these problems it is necessary to increase the number of livable houses, one of which is by building a centralized and localized domestic wastewater treatment system and the provision of drinking water facilities.
"Construction of livable houses can be strengthened through the development strategy of waste water treatment and drinking water treatment, both centrally and locally," he said.
He also mentioned that the construction of sanitation, drinking water installations and housing was in accordance with the 2020-2024 Manokwari Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD).
The development of sanitation and drinking water infrastructure can be directly felt by the community, both in densely populated settlements, dense settlements in growing areas, commercial areas and certain areas.
On Monday, Hermus inaugurated the construction of a Communal Waste Water Treatment Plant (IPAL) using the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) in Bowi Subur Village, Masni District, as well as providing assistance for sanitation and drinking water installation equipment to a number of village heads who were present.
Previously, the Head of the Manokwari Public Housing and Settlement Area, Joni Towansiba, admitted that the construction of sanitation and drinking water installations had not been able to directly address all housing problems, but he hoped that collaboration between the government, the private sector and care groups could be established.
The 2022 Sanitation DAK in Manokwari is carried out in 9 locations, namely in West Manokwari and Sanggeng Villages and Udopi Village in West Manokwari District, Pasir Putih Village and Bakaro Village in East Manokwari District, Desay Village, Aimasi Village and Udapi Hilir Village in Prafi District and Bowi Subur Village in Masni District.
Meanwhile, drinking water programs that also use DAK were built in Bremi Village and Saubeba Village in North Manokwari District, Amban Village in West Manokwari District, Sowi Village in South Manokwari District, Wam Bola Village in Masni District and Manggupi Village in Sidey District.
