The Jayapura District Health Office will make a breakthrough in suppressing Malaria.
This was conveyed by the Head of Jayapura Health Office, Khairul Lie, after meeting UNICEF at the Jayapura Regent's Office, Tuesday (5/9/2022).
He said the breakthrough was in the form of health checks for sick and healthy people on Bumi Kenambai Umbai.
"We want the elimination of malaria with normal service conditions to be difficult to achieve, for that there is a breakthrough to accelerate the reduction of malaria cases," he said in Gunung Merah, Sentani City District, Tuesday (6/9/2022).
The Malaria case in Jayapura Regency in the 2021 Annual Parasite Incidence (API) or the morbidity rate per 1000 population at risk of Malaria is 193.
"So out of 1000 people, only 193 people are sick with malaria. We want to reduce it from 1-5 in 2023 to 2026, the phase of elimination," he said.
To achieve this, his party requires the support of the government, the community, and the Malaria Cadre to accelerate the decline in cases.
Khariul explained that his party will carry out treatment and checks simultaneously for one week. Malaria officers and cadres can immediately take treatment if there are people who are sick.
Other efforts, according to him, are direct intervention on the main cause, Malaria Mosquito, through environmental engineering with mosquito repellent plants and also increasing public understanding of the dangers and timing of bites of Malaria Mosquitoes.
"In these villages, our people do not understand the time of the bite of the Malaria Mosquito which is from 18.00-06.00 WIT. If they are outside this time, the community must know the preventive measures," he said.
Meanwhile, to eliminate Malaria, his party has provided health facilities equipped with Malaria checks, both medical personnel and sufficient stock of drugs.
