Kaimana Regent Freddy Thie stated that the establishment of a number of new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua, both provincial and district/city, was needed in order to encourage equity and accelerate development and services to the community.
Regent Freddy, who was contacted from Manokwari, Friday, said that his staff together with the DPRD, traditional leaders and local community leaders had sat down together and agreed that DOB is a commitment from all components of the community of Kaimana Regency, West Papua.
"Some time ago we sat down together and discussed about the new autonomous regions. We have agreed to support the new autonomous regions because the goal is noble for the common interest of the entire community, not only in Kaimana Regency, but also throughout the province of West Papua," said Freddy.
According to him, the Regency Government, DPRD and the indigenous people of Kaimana Regency have also expressed support for the formation of new autonomous regions in West Papua during a meeting with the Acting Governor of West Papua Paulus Waterpauw in Jakarta on Wednesday (7/9).
"In principle, the goal of the DOB is a good step to bring about change in Papua, especially in West Papua Province. Therefore, we all agree to support," said Regent Freddy, who is familiarly called Kaibus.
In a meeting with the ranks of the Regency Government, DPRD and Kaimana Customary Council, Acting Governor of West Papua Paulus Waterpauw appreciated the support from all components for the proposed formation of new autonomous regions in Papua, especially in the West Papua region.
"I really appreciate the aspirations expressed by all components of the Kaimana community. Of course we will continue to monitor this for the progress of the people in Papua, especially West Papua," said Waterpauw, a retired National Police with the last rank of Commissioner General of Police.
One of the new autonomous regions in West Papua which is currently being discussed by the Indonesian Parliament is the Province of Southwest Papua.
Not only that, the people from the Domberay customary area which includes the regencies of Fakfak, Kaimana, Bintuni Bay, and Wondama Bay also want to form a new province with the hope that development in that area will not lag behind other areas in Papua.
