With the establishment of a new autonomous region (DOB) in Indonesia, the Ministry of Home Affairs has finally established the South Papua Regional Secretary's Office in Merauke Regency. The office of the regional secretariat (Sekda) for South Papua is located at Jalan Trikora, Merauke City, to be precise at the Asmat Hotel. Even in the oldest hotel building in Merauke, the South Papua Regional Secretary's office sign has been installed.
According to the Head of the Transitional Working Group I for South Papua Province, the Director General of Politics and General Administration at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Sri Handoko Taruna, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will inaugurate South Papua as a new province in Indonesia. Thus, the Asmat Hotel is also officially used as a South Papua government office which contains 22 Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD).
“The building that was prepared or planned has already been plastered with the sign at the Asmat Hotel. There we calculated, there are 26 rooms that we can optimize to make 22 temporary or transitional OPDs," said Sri Handoko Taruna to Tribun-Papua.com in Merauke, Saturday (10/9/2022).
He explained, in accordance with the discussion of the transition team with all parties while in Merauke that the South Papua Provincial Government and districts/cities would try to use a minimal pattern. "In a sense, anything that is a basic service function will be directly used by us," said Handoko.
In general, he continued, there are around 22 OPDs of the South Papua Provincial Government, but the process for filling OPDs can occur according to ability or stages. "What we can do is basically the pattern of the South Papua Provincial Government for new autonomous regions is prepared in a minimalist manner, but does not reduce the performance of the government," said Handoko. According to Tribun-Papua.com, the Asmat Hotel, which is one of the oldest hotels in Merauke, belongs to the Papuan Provincial Government, which was renovated to welcome the XX National Sports Week (PON) in 2021. The location of the Asmat hotel which is managed by the Merauke Regency Government is directly opposite the state building which has been installed with the South Papua Province Governor's Office signpost.
