Deputy Minister of Home Affairs John Wempi Wetipo claimed that the community was enthusiastic about the establishment of the New Autonomous Region or the New Autonomous Region of Papua. It is known, the Draft Laws (RUU) for three Papua New Guineans, namely South Papua, Central Papua, and Papua Mountains were ratified on 30 June 2022 and the three Papua New Guinea Laws were officially promulgated on 25 July 2022.
John Wempi Wetipo said that the enthusiasm of the residents with the determination of the new autonomous regions was seen when he visited the expansion site.
"When we are here, how come I can see the enthusiasm of the community is extraordinary. Yes, so when you are in Nabire, the community is welcome. Until the community school children took to the streets," said John Wempi Watipo.
This, according to John Wempi Watipo, dismissed the notion that the Papua New Guinea had been rejected. He denied that the remarks were mobilized by the government. Furthermore, John Wempi Wetipo said that the Papuan people have their own expectations regarding the formation of new autonomous regions.
He said that many Papuans hoped that the formation of the new autonomous regions could actually bring about good changes. "That's what they expected. That there are changes that can really happen,” said John Wempi Wetipo. "He hopes that this expansion will bring new changes in social life in the new autonomous regions."
Jokowi's Task
John Wempi Wetipo also claimed to have received an assignment from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding the Papua New Guinea. One of them is how to embrace all parties who are pro and con related to the formation of new autonomous regions. “I was then called by the President that there was a refusal process. He said how this is the way to embrace all parties, both those who reject and those who accept," said John Wempi Wetipo.
John Wempi Wetipo claims the rejection of DOB has been completed. "We have conveyed to our friends the pros and cons. Let's unite for a better country, for the sake of prosperity, let's evaluate the initial pros and cons," he said.
