Support DOB, BMP2I West Papua: Expansion for the advancement of indigenous Papuans (OAP) in their respective territories

The Indonesian Development Improvement Development Community Front (BMP21) West Papua fully supports the division of New Autonomous Regions (DOB) in provinces and districts/cities in Papua and West Papua.

The General Secretary of DPW BMP21 West Papua, Markus Fatem, explained that his party supports the central government for the expansion of Papua and West Papua for the advancement of the indigenous Papuans (OAP) in their respective regions. According to him, the expansion is very good according to the principles of human rights law in Indonesia.

"This is a policy to respect Papuan human rights in Papua," said Markus in a press statement received by Linkpapua.com, Friday (8/7/2022).

He also welcomed the ratification of the draft law (RUU) into a law regarding the expansion of South Papua Province, Central Papua Province, and Central Mountains Province by the Indonesian House of Representatives on June 30, 2022.

“Ideally Papua is divided into seven more provinces. Right, there are currently five provinces, namely Papua Province, West Papua Province, South Papua Province, Central Papua Province, and Central Mountains Papua Province. Now, the remaining ones are North Papua Province and Southwest Papua Province," he said.

Markus also asked the Provincial Government of West Papua, in this case the Acting Governor of West Papua, Paulus Waterpauw, to fight for the aspirations of regional leaders and the people of West Papua for the expansion of new autonomous regions in 2 provinces and 7 regencies/cities in West Papua.

"Essentially, we support the plan to expand the new autonomous regions of 2 provinces and 7 regencies/cities in West Papua," he said.

Previously, the West Papua Provincial Government and regional heads of regents/mayors, traditional leaders, religious leaders, women's leaders, youth leaders, and students in West Papua encouraged the expansion of new autonomous regions in 2 provinces and 7 districts/cities in West Papua, namely the Municipality of Manokwari, Fakfak Municipality, West Manokwari Regency, Maybrat Sau Regency, Kokas Regency, East Kaimana Regency, and Kuri Wamesa Regency.
