Acting Governor of Papua Komjen Pol (Ret.) Drs Paulus Waterpauw, M.Si invited the West Papua Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Tahi Silitonga to work together to build West Papua to get rid of all stigma from groups that only minimize the role of the state.
Governor Wterpauw conveyed this invitation during a farewell ceremony to welcome the West Papua Police Chief at the Niu Ason Manokwari Hotel, Monday (04/07/2022).
The greeting followed the handover of the position of PB Police Chief from Inspector General of Police Tornagogo Sihombing to Inspector General Daniel Tahi Silitonga.
''Praise God, West Papua is as we see it today, there have been development successes that have been achieved, the people are very humanist, open in accepting policies that come down from traditional culture, working hand in hand to build this province,'' said Waterpauw.
He said, in general, all elements in West Papua starting from leaders, figures and the community work together to build good communication to work together.
The current achievements that have been made by the Governor and Deputy Governor in the past, said Waterpauw, have shown results, but it cannot be denied that there are still cases of stunting, extreme poverty and other underdevelopment and a low HDI.
''Let's all work together to build the existing gap, our HDI is still low, it is our duty to improve people's lives for the better,'' he explained.
On that occasion, Governor Waterpauw also told how the situation was when he started the construction of the West Papua Regional Police and became the first Kapolda.
''At that time conditions were still limited, cars were still borrowed, new personnel were 50 people, had to think about where the members lived, seven months I experienced being the first Kapolda, but now the situation is getting better,'' he explained.
At the end of his remarks, Governor Waterpauw reminded that starting in 2023, the regional elections in West Papua and throughout Indonesia will begin and the culmination of simultaneous elections will be in 2024.
''2023 has entered the election year, the election year until 2024, the situation, the political temperature will increase. I take this good opportunity to represent the government of the people of West Papua and invite all of us to continue to build good communication to keep West Papua safe,'' he hoped.
