Alleged Misappropriation of Funds, KPK Urged to Examine the Large Committee of PON XX Papua

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has been urged to investigate allegations of misappropriation of funds by the Grand Committee of the XX Papua National Sports Week.

Leo Himan, the former Chairman of the Student Consultative Council (MPM) of Cenderawasih University, Jayapura, conveyed this insistence. Leo said this was in response to the polemic after the four-year event.

"PB PON or those involved in Peparnas, the KPK came to check," said Leo to Tribun-Papua.com in Jayapura, Saturday (4/12/2021).

According to him, the central government, through related technical agencies, should be more assertive with the current conditions that are happening on Cenderawasih Earth.

He continued, don't let it drag on before other new problems arise, so that the problems that are in front of your eyes are not resolved.

"Don't be afraid of the issue of Free Papua, it has nothing to do with these corrupt officials, with the issue of an independent Papua," he said.

"Free Papua means that all Papuans must have a desire to fight in their own way," he said.

The former administrator of the Indonesian Papuan Central Highlands Student Association (AMPTPI) admitted that he was concerned about the volunteers, medical personnel, journalists and other third parties who had contributed to the success of the XX PON.

However, he said, the reality was that until the national level sporting momentum event was over, their rights were not paid or not as promised.

"It's a pity for them, they don't receive their rights as they should," he said.

"I suspect this PON is too much management that is not well organized. So, many things are a problem," he said.

He emphasized that the KPK must examine PB PON, because so far many have not been paid, even though the money is there, meaning that public suspicions that there are deposits are correct.

"Don't dance on other people's suffering, it's not good," he said.

Leo, who is one of the candidates for the chairman of the KNPI Papua, regrets the attitude of the central government which
impressed only "lip service."

"Lip service" by scaring officials or district and city governments in Papua about 10 cases of alleged corruption, but so far no action has been taken.

"I think it's like this, we can't believe this central government either with a wow statement," he said.

"Because the news about the top 10 alleged corruption in Papua was discussed in March 2021 (which was conveyed by Mahfud MD) but to this day not a single case has been revealed," he said.

That means, he said, the central government is only scaring officials in Papua, that's how it is. Scare Papuan officials so they don't talk about an independent Papua, for example.

"This is considered a Jakarta game. But if Jakarta is speaking the truth, has evidence, please arrest them, because these officials are nothing," he said.

"Even if they are arrested, people are lazy to know because they don't have a real contribution to their community so far," he added.
