Kominfo Collaborates with Catholic Youth to Train Papuan Youth Digital Literacy



The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) opened a digital literacy training for making graphs of research results for Papuan youth. This online training was carried out in collaboration with the administrators of the Catholic Youth Center.

The government is currently focusing on building information technology infrastructure and digital literacy in the 3T (Front, Remote and Disadvantaged) areas, especially in Papua, which is the focus of President Jokowi's government.
 
"We, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, are currently focusing on building information technology infrastructure in eastern Indonesia, which generally includes the 3T area. Infrastructure development is accompanied by digital skills programs, digital security and digital culture," said the Special Staff of the Ministry of Communication and Information for Political Communication, Philip Gobang when opening the training, quoted Monday (11/7/2022).

He explained that as many as 8,000 BTS had been built and PPTIK cables were installed throughout Tanah Papua as an effort to equalize internet access. Therefore, the Ministry of Communication and Information is ready to collaborate with the Papuan Catholic Youth Task Force to build digital literacy in Papua.

Meanwhile, the Main Expert Staff of the Presidential Staff Office, Theofransus Litaay, thanked the Minister of Communication and Informatics for the support for this Educational Papua program.

"As directed by President Jokowi regarding the development of Papuan human resources, the Papua Educational program from the Catholic Youth organization is very helpful in developing Papuan human resources, especially for the younger generation," he added.
 
Meanwhile, the PIC of the National Youth Movement for Transforming Transformation (Petra) Digital, Bondan Wicaksono, explained that this literacy training was part of a national collaboration program with the Minister of Communication and Information.

"We will be actively involved in the National Digital Literacy Movement through the Petra Digital initiative. Our digital literacy training will be carried out nationally, one of which is focused on Eastern Indonesia, especially Papua," he said.

Meanwhile, General Chairperson of PP Pemuda Catholic, Stefanus Gusma said, the Petra Digital national movement is a digital literacy strengthening that will be carried out by Catholic Youth in 37 dioceses, and approximately 1288 parishes throughout Indonesia.
 
An IT lecturer at Satya Wacana Christian University as Chair of the Papua Task Force, Melkior NN Sitokdana conveyed the commitment of the Papuan Youth to implement the Papua Educational program in the field of digital literacy.

“We initiated the Papua Educational program as part of efforts to improve the quality of Papuan human resources. We hold digital literacy activities every month with more than 100 fostered youths. This is to be more adaptive to the development of information technology and to take an important part in the development process in Papua," he said.
