The rise of actions from groups calling themselves Petisi Rakyat Papua (PRP) in Jayapura City or on the Tabi Customary Land against government policies related to the expansion of new autonomous regions and Otsus in Papua received a strong response from various traditional leaders and communities in Papua.
Secretary of LMA Nabire, Drs. Gerson Ramandey, said that one of them was the rejection by the Nabire Regency Indigenous Peoples Institution (LMA). LMA Nabire assessed that the demonstration against the new autonomous regions which would be held simultaneously was inappropriate because many people, especially in Nabire, accepted the expansion which had been approved by the DPR RI.
Moreover, at a meeting with Regional Heads throughout Papua together with Commission II of the DPR RI in Jayapura some time ago, it was unanimous to accept the expansion of the Papua Province.
"We, the natives of Nabire, do not support demonstrations against DOB, in any form because we see that the demonstrations that are often carried out do not meet legal standards, and again they do not provide solutions to the government about what they want," said Ramandey.
Meanwhile, LMA as the representative of the Nabire community firmly asked all parties, especially people from other areas not to provoke the Nabire community and respect the wishes of the indigenous Nabire community for development.
"We are the indigenous people of Nabire in the coastal area, especially the 7 tribes, we want peace, we want security and we want to develop our territory. We don't want other people to come to Nabire to demonstrate,” he said.
