The Expansion of Papua in the Eyes of the Regent of Puncak

The Regent of Puncak Papua, Willem Wandik, has his own views on the expansion of Papua or the new autonomous region (DOB).

According to the DPR RI Bill which was agreed at the DPR plenary meeting on April 12, it was stated that the formation of 3 new provinces in Papua, namely . South Papua Province, Bill on the Establishment of Central Papua Province.
Even the DPR RI has received a presidential letter (surpres) on the bill for the expansion of Papua on Sunday (15/5/2022).
The Regent of Puncak, Willem Wandik, responded to this surprise. According to him, DOB is not just a discourse.
"In June the suppression will be under discussion and will be ratified as soon as possible. If there are still those who refuse, that's good. If someone accepts this proposal, that's fine," he explained when met by reporters on Saturday afternoon (28/5/2022) in Jayapura.

Willem sees the presence of the division of Papua as very beneficial, especially for indigenous Papuans (OAP), starting from creating jobs to developing Cenderawasih Earth.

"If these 3 provinces are divided, then there will be regional heads, governors and deputy governors for OAP. Because it is stated in the Special Autonomy Law, regional heads at the provincial level are led by OAP. This is very good," he explained.

Then, in the opening of job opportunities, the 3 regions that are divided will require a lot of state civil servants (ASN) who will work for existing agencies.
"And this can be filled by young scholars in Papua. Graduates of the University of Cenderawasih, once graduated there are 1000 people. Imagine if these young scholars were spread out in new autonomous regions, the job opportunities would be wide open," he said.
In terms of employment opportunities for ASN can be calculated, not to mention other jobs in the field of services or entrepreneurship and so on which are very wide open.

"This includes the budget cycle in Papua. If this new autonomous region is formed, it is estimated that Rp 60-80 trillion will circulate in one fiscal year. It is certain that the economy will grow," he said.
Regent Willem understands the OAP's fear of the risk of new autonomous regions with many people from outside Papua entering and living on Papuan land.
The dynamics in a developing country or region is the emergence of new people in that place. America, for example, has very few native citizens and many people from outside America have come to the area bringing many benefits, for example from India, China, Indonesia and many more.
"Same with Papua. Currently there are very few OAP. Then the issue of new autonomous regions is intensified. We are aware that the fear of the entry of other people from outside Papua will create fear. But, likes and dislikes state life like this and DOB is a gift, as well as the result of joint prayer and answered by God," he said.
